Barcelona
Visited Barcelona Sep2-6. Explored the Barri Gotic, Barcelona's 'old town' equivalent, which is built atop the ruins of the old Roman settlement, and houses the city's cathedral. Also wandered around Montjuïc, where the complex for the Olympic Games was built.
Old Barcelona
there are bits of walls and old buildings tacked together with newer ones all around the Barri Gotic (there's an 'Old Town' at the heart of nearly every Spanish city, but in this case they don't call it that)
Comtes de Barcelona
tiny little boxes with the remains of some thousand year old Catalan nobles in the Cathedral
Barcelona Cathedral
beautiful little cloister in the cathedral

Old Barcelona
thin little streets and inter-connected buildings
Roman Barcelona
this old Roman-style façade looked beautiful; I'm not sure when it actually dates from, but it points to the original Roman settlement which is now underground (in the same area)
Barcelona
went to Parc Guell, 'the Gaudi park'; it was too hot to explore so I sat and watched some buskers
Barcelona
taken from high up in the Gaudi park; the Sagrada Familia really stands out
Entrance to Barcelona
huge towers mark the entrance into the city from the area of the Olympic complex
Olympic Barcelona
the complex built for the Olympic games is all big, clean, glass and stone; it's now used for conventions
Olympic Barcelona
the world looks blurrier when one gets old
Took a few deliberately out-of-focus shots of other tourists; this one balances very nicely

looking back into Barcelona; the sheer amount of SPACE in the Olympic complex is imposing
Roman/Olympic Barcelona
the trees in the distance add to the decided Roman-ness of the whole Olympic complex
Confused Barcelona
This was rather stupid: the arrows on earlier signs had been pointing up/forward, then all of a sudden they started pointing down; I didn't know if that meant I had to turn around and go back or what! Eventually realised it was because the road had started to decline slightly, and thus one had to go 'down' the hill!
Down/Forward
took the funicular down from Montjuïc
