A Coruña (y Betanzos)
Visited A Coruña Aug26-28, with a trip to Betanzos Aug27. A Coruña is a big industrial town in Galicia, with a huge port and beautiful beach (and the weather was spectacular for bonus points). Betanzos is a small medieval hill-town, complete with thin steep streets; it's recently expanded a great deal but most of the newer development is rather neglected.
A Cat
there were a bunch of cats hanging round the port, but they wouldn't sit still or come out from behind the rocks to have their photos taken
Coal
A Coruña's primary export, though EU-membership ruined the industry and it's gone into decline since
Docks
The docks sit on one side of A Coruña, with the beach on the other
A Coruña
an odd-looking building and a mini-dock for mini-boats
The Tower of Hercules
just an odd-looking and altogether-too-modern lighthouse, but the un-sanitised walk up there (the paved road isn't shown) is cool, with weird scrap/sculptures scattered around
Post-Medieval Festival
well actually just post-festival; Betanzos is a tiny little town, built on a hill between the fork of a river; classic medieval streets - thin and steep; this one isn't because it's actually just the square outside the main church
Post-Industrial
Outside the medieval hill town, Betanzos quickly expanded, and is now falling down; the nearest structures were never finished and are now overgrown
Hill Town
gives some idea of the hill Betanzos is built on
A Coruña
the dock and classic galerias
Bonus Points for Weirdness
This bizarre needle-point thing juts out of one of the heads in A Coruña
