Quoting Song Lyrics
15October2006 [directLink] [music]
I have, as John Mayer sings, “too many corners in my mind” right now, and have been unable to get much coherent out of any of them. So instead, I shall quote song lyrics.
I picked up Mayer’s latest, Continuum, simply because I heard it was bluesy and I know Mayer can do bluesy from his concerts. Loving the album, and part of the reason is because the lyrics seem to be speaking to where my head is at right now. Some examples follow (from, in order, “Waiting on the World to Change”, “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)”, “Belief”, “Stop This Train”):
They say we stand for nothing
And there’s no way we ever could
Now we see everything that’s going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don’t have the means
To rise above and beat it
I don’t trust myself with loving you
Is there anyone who really recalls
Ever breaking rank at all
For something someone yelled real loud one time
Stop this train
I want to get off
And go home again
I can’t take the speed it’s moving in
